Program Guide & Guidebook

A tentative 2019 UMACRAO Annual Conference Full Schedule can be found here with Session Descriptions forthcoming. They provide a look at all the sessions that are currently slated for presentation, timelines, and a look at the evening events that will cap off our daily collaboration and learning. The 2019 UMACRAO program will also be available on Guidebook, the mobile app for our conference! You can download the Guidebook app from your mobile app store.

Philanthropy

This year we will be working with REACH Literacy out of Sioux Falls as our philanthropy recipient. Their mission is to provide individualized reading, writing, and life skills tutoring that empowers adults in the Sioux Empire to reach their potential. Not only do they provide adult tutoring programs free of charge, but have also done book-themed children’s events like bilingual storytime. In addition to our annual fundraising raffle, we will be doing a book drive for REACH – so please start looking through your book collection to see if you have any gently used (or new) titles that you are willing to part with. We will gladly accept any raffle items and books you can provide!

Keynote Speaker – Eric Alva

We are pleased to welcome Eric Alva as our closing speaker on Friday. A decorated Iraq war veteran, gay man, and LGBTQ rights activist, Eric played an instrumental role in the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on gay, lesbian and bisexual service members, working with members of Congress to end the discriminatory practice. Drawing on his battle for equality in the military on behalf of the LGBTQ community, he discusses how that experience supports the momentum for diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and how a commitment to equality attracts talent, builds a sense of belonging, and creates a competitive advantage.
